More books and a Huge Thank You

The book drive is well under way. I have been hounding my friends to clean off their shelves and it seems to be working. I have also set up an Amazon wish list (link is to the right of this post) for those of you who want to donate that way.

I personally want to thank one of my favorite bloggers, Doppelganger. I wrote to her asking for suggestions for the list. I never expected her to be so generous as to write about the project and enlist the help of her readers. So, this just makes her even more awesome than I originally thought. If you don't believe me, check out the awesome post she wrote: 50 Books: BOOKS: Give a Little, Get a Lot

I really can't say enough about how awesome she is for writing about this. I know she has a large enough readership to reach more people than I ever could have. So I am more than a little touched by her generosity.

So here are the facts. The shelter houses 350-375 kids at any given moment. The age range is 10-17 and the readership is mostly female. The shelter is most interested in age appropriate fiction and have a need for books in the following categories:

-Reference

-Atlases

-Encyclopedias

-Sports

-Books on How things work

-Career choices

-Historical and Biographical

-Arts and Crafts

So not only am I accepting donations to the wishlist, I am also accepting suggestions for the list. I want the list to keep growing and the donations to keep going until they tell me they have no more room.

You can also ship any books you personally want to donate to:

Oasis Youth Shelter

3634 Central Avenue

Ft. Myers, FL 33901

If you want to suggest books for the wishlist, leave a comment or send me an email at chasitymoodyATifeelpithydotcom. Now if you will excuse me, I have more books to box up and send.

And Doppelganger, thank you again for being so awesome.

I'm here because Dr. John has made you his link of the day...so be expecting more company.

Great thing you are doing for the shelter. I'd send books myself, but I just cleared my shelves and donated to our library's used book sale. Lots of interesting posts and links. I'll be back to read more.

hello. here from Dr. John's, he has made you the link of the day. enjoy.

thank you for what you are doing. i think it is wondeful. i wish we lived closer. i certainly have tons of books i could send you. but with the price of sending them over the mail, it would be cheaper to buy new. my kids are all book worms. inmensely. i can punish them by taking them away. i'm very lucky. i started them early. when they were still babies i would give them books and not just toys...so they always grew up with them. My house is a funny looking one with hundreds of books everywhere. I would always hit the thrift store to buy them tons and let them choose. they are in great shape and only a buck or so for them..

have yourself a wonderful wknd and good luck.

Hi I like Book drives all the wonderful books

I'm weird that way. One time I was reading a book well I was at a football game. I'm so weird thats why I'm The Crazy Object B. or TCOB From dr.johns The TCOB

What a great charity. I wish I could help but as a classroom teacher pretty much every penny I spend on YA books goes into my classroom. I don't have a check out policy on my books. Every year I lose several dozen -- but my hope is kids fall in love with the books and that is why they keep them.

Dr. John sent me.

That is a great cause.. that is so exciting.. I would love to help out.. let me see what i can find..

By the way.. Dr. John sent me here..

nea:

Dr. John sent me also. I have been collecting books for the better part of 50 years, and everytime I move, I pratically give away books. Last time I called the local used book store and he came with a truck and hauled away a pickup load for a pittance. I will go through what I have and see if any are appropriate. I used to home school my kids, so I might have some school appropriate reference books. But I have no idea what kids like to read. I can just send some and if you don't think them appropriate you can dispose of them.

Catch:

What a great cause!!! Reading is so good for the soul...it transports you into another world. Dr John sent me.

Please feel free to send what you have. The books will not go to waste. If they are not appropriate they will be donated to a thrift store or we can send them to a charity of your choosing.

Sue:

Dr. John sent me. Good luck with the book drive. It sounds like Dr. John's crew will be very helpful
